Promoting the digitalisation of our power grids

Energy transition

With support from the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, we are promoting the digitalisation of our electricity grids.

Forty million euros of the total 270 million euros we invested in infrastructures and quality of service improvements in 2021 were spent on power grid digitalisation and automation, including advanced Low Voltage supervision projects, work on Medium and High Voltage assets, cyber-security and advanced asset management, among others.

In 2022, the scheduled figure for investment in this type of power grid digitalisation projects stands at 43 million euros.

These projects have been presented for joint financing by the European Union under Heading 8 of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan: ‘Electricity infrastructures, the promotion of smart networks and the roll-out of flexibility and storage’.

The major investments being made to update and digitalise our power grids will make a decisive contribution to achieving energy transition and decarbonisation goals, as they will allow the continued incorporation of the growing volume of renewable generation, self-supply and distributed generation under the ongoing commitment to guarantee an efficient, safe and quality service.

Furthermore, investments in sensor installation and the digitalisation of infrastructures will enable us to continue raising electricity supply quality which, in our case, already stands 35% above the average level in Spain.
